WHAT MIX DO I NEED?
That depends on what sort of job you're doing. Different mix specifications are used for different purposes with higher-grade (strength) mixes being used for flooring and external paving rather than for foundations. If you are unsure of your requirements, please contact us directly where we will be happy to advise you on the best option for your needs.
WHAT PREPARATION DO I NEED TO DO?
If you use a layer of polythene damp proof membrane between the sub-base and concrete, it will assist in preventing your concrete from drying too quickly, and help to stop problems with rising damp on your finished project.
Most people will already have the tools required to handle and place concrete, but check the list below to make sure that you are fully prepared.
|WHEELBARROW||Essential to transport the concrete around your job|
|SHOVEL & RAKE||For moving the concrete|
|SPIRIT LEVEL||To ensure accuracy|
|TAPE MEASURE||For calculation of quantity required|
|TIMBER||To make pegs, formwork, and tamping beam|
|STRING & PEGS||For setting out the area to be concreted|
|TROWEL OR FLOAT||For surface finishing|
|BRUSH||For cleaning up afterwards|
Please be aware that concrete is both abrasive and alkaline, so protective clothing, gloves, boots, overalls etc. should always be worn. Cement can burn skin.
WILL THE TRUCK-MIXER BE ABLE TO GET TO THE JOB?
The access required will depend on the size of vehicle specified at the time of ordering, but as a guide, the minimum width for our smallest vehicle is 8' 6" and the minimum height is 12' 6"
The MINIMUM LOAD SIZE is 0.5m 3.
The MAXIMUM CAPACITY of our largest vehicle is 6.5m3.
Please ensure that you can provide safe and reasonable access for the truck-mixer, as we cannot be held responsible for damage caused to footpaths, existing driveways etc. You may be asked to sign an indemnity form at the time of delivery.
Assuming that the truck can be positioned at right angles to the job, the chutes have a maximum reach of approximately 2.5m (8ft). This distance is reduced to around 1.5m (5ft) if the truck is only able to draw alongside the job.
Iif this reach is insufficient for your needs, one of our conveyors or a concrete pump can be used, by prior arrangement, which will allow the placement of concrete up to a distance of around 15m (50ft) away with a conveyor, or 45m (150ft) away from the truck-mixer with the pump. An extra charge for these services will apply.
WHAT AREAS DO PORTHMADOG CONCRETE DELIVER TO?
Porthmadog Concrete Ltd operates throughout Gwynedd - specifically Porthmadog, Pwllheli, Caernarfon, Bangor and Dolgellau. Our Delivery Areas page shows the full extent of our operating area.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT WHEN MY CONCRETE IS DELIVERED?
When the truck-mixer arrives, the driver will assess the required delivery location, and discuss with you the best method of discharging the concrete into place. If it is not possible to get the truck-mixer close enough, and you have notified in detail of the desired locale at the time of ordering, your concrete may be off-loaded directly via the conveyor. If the truck-mixer is required on site for more than 30 minutes, a small additional charge may be applied.
HOW DO I CONTACT PORTHMADOG CONCRETE LIMITED?
We can be contacted directly by e-mail, telephone, fax or in writing. For full contact details, please see our contacts page.
HOW CAN I PAY?
Payment can be made by cheque or cash on the day of delivery, by Visa, Mastercard or Switch at the time of ordering, or for trade customers through a credit account, subject to status. Credit and/or bank references may be required.
HOW LONG DO I GET BEFORE THE CONCRETE SETS?
The chemical reaction that takes place within a concrete mix begins as soon as the cement and water are mixed together. This means that usually, you will have between 1-2 hours once the concrete arrives on your job to place, level, compact and finish the mix.
